Penha Longa, Estrada da Lagoa Azul, Linhó Azul, T 21 924 00 14. Continue on the EN 9 in direction of Estoril-Sintra, turning left to Lagoa Azul. A hilly championship course with spectacular scenery. Penha Longa was designed by famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr on the site of the first convent of the order of Saint Jerome 1355. The first nine holes of this course were built in 1929 by Fausto de Figueiredo, the gambling concessionaire at the Estoril Casino. The 18-hole course followed in 1945, designed by the great Mackenzie Ross, one of the worlds most renowned golf architects. The 16th hole is considered by many to be one of the best holes in Portugal. E51 weekdays, E65 weekends. Quinta de Beloura, Estrada de Albarraque, T 21 910 63 50. Head towards Estoril-Sintra direction, on the EN9, turning off at Alcabideche. The course is 100m along on the left. The most recent addition, this 60-hectare course straddles the Estoril Coast, between Cascais and Sintra, and was designed by the American architect Rocky Roquemore.
