Gordons, 47 Villiers St, T 020-7930 1408. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1200-2200. A subterranean wine-bar where exceptional wines can be enjoyed in the candlelit gloom of its convivial vaults. It also does fairly expensive salad bar-style food. The Salisbury, 90 St Martins Lane, T 020-7836 5863. Mon-Fri 1100-2300, Sat 1200-2300, Sun 1200-2230. A classic West End boozer, its gleaming Victorian interior fully renovated and as popular as ever (sometimes too popular), especially with tourists and theatregoers. Salvador & Amanda, 8 Great Newport St, T 020-7240 1551. Mon 1200-0100, Tue-Thu 1200-0200, Fri and Sat 1800-0300, Sun 1200- 0100. A subterranean designer tapas bar with a good range of cocktails. Tiger Tiger, 29 Haymarket, T 020-7930 1885. Mon-Sat 1200-0300, Sun 1200-2400. A huge place with four bars, one of them decorated in a weird mock-North African style thats quite fun. Alphabet, 61 Beak St, T 020-7439 2190. Mon-Fri 1200-2300, Sat 1700-2300. Formerly the advertising creatives favourite hang-out, Alphabet has mellowed but still remains one of the more happening drinking holes in west Soho. Circus Bar, 1 Upper James St, T 020-7534 4000. Mon-Fri 1200- 0130, Sat 1830-0130. Very stylish and sophisticated basement bar (with prices to match) below a fine dining restaurant and open until late. The Coach and Horses, 29 Greek St, T 020-7437 5920. Mon-Sat 1100-2330, Sun 1200-2300. Long established as the archetypal Soho boozer, thanks to its famously rude landlord and alcoholic regulars like the late Jeffrey Bernard. Still a refreshingly unpretentious place for a pint and a great £1 ham sandwich. Dog and Duck, 18 Bateman St, T 020-7494 0697. Mon-Sat 1200- 2300, Sun 1200-2230. The film industrys favourite old-fashioned boozer, a busy little corner pub on two floors pumping very good beer with a quieter boudoir bar upstairs. French House, 49 Dean St, T 020-7437 2799. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1200-2230. The other favourite haunt of the Soho set, a cosy, wood-panelled theatre bar where the wine is very good and beer served in half pints only.
