Trader Vics, Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, T 020-7493 8000. Mon-Thu 1700-0100, Fri and Sat 1700-0300, Sun 1700-2330. With its South Island Beach bar theme and glamorous oriental waitresses, this is an old-timer that still delivers a kick with its famous hot rum cocktails served in shiver-me-timbers skull mugs. The Red Lion, 23 Crown Passage, T 020-7930 4141. Mon-Sat 1100-2300. Closed Sun. A bog-standard British boozer that seems to have landed in St Jamess from some remote provincial outpost a long time ago, and the area would be much poorer without its reassuring cosiness, as welcoming to dogs and old men as suits and bohos. The ICA Bar, The Mall. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1000-2200. £1.50 day membership required. A lively late-night hang-out for the arts brigade. Bradleys Spanish Bar, 42-44 Hanway St, T 020-7636 0359. Mon-Sat 1200-2300, Sun 1500-2230. A tiny place and a long-standing media boho favourite, with a basement dive bar and excellent jukebox on the ground floor. Sevilla Mia, 22 Hanway St, T 020-7637 3756. Mon-Sat 1900-0200, Sun 1900- 0100. Continuing the peculiar Hispanic theme of Hanway St, a scruffy, cosy little basement tapas bar that stays open late and often has live flamenco. The Grenadier, 18 Wilton Row, T 020-7235 3074. Similar but with honest-to-goodness old-soldiering associations and often understandably overcrowded. The Nags Head, 53 Kinnerton St, T 020-7235 1135. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1200-2230. A freehouse with excellent beers, the largest and most rambling of the threesome. Star Tavern, 6 Belgrave Mews West, T 020-7235 3019. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1200-2230. One of three pubs tucked away in Belgravia that stand out for their traditional atmosphere, interesting clientele and affable bar staff. Bunch of Grapes, 207 Brompton Rd, T 020-7589 4944. Mon-Sat 1100-2300, Sun 1200-2200. Famous old pub thats retained its Victorian cosiness and also does reasonable food.
