Prism, 147 Leadenhall St, T 020-7256 3888. Mon-Fri 1200-2300. The basement of Harvey Nicholls city restaurant has expensive bottled beers and is a sophisticated place to enjoy some top-quality bar snacks. Anchor Bankside, 34 Park St, T 020-7407 1577. Mon-Sat 1100- 2300, Sun 1200-2230. Almost too famous for its own good, a much older, very busy warren of rooms but also with a riverside terrace tucked beneath the railway line into Cannon St. Founders Arms, 52 Hopton St, T 020-7928 1899. Daily 0900- 2300. An excellent Youngs pub on the river that must be laughing all the way to the bank since the opening of Tate Modern. The combination of large riverside terrace and efficient, friendly service of decent food all day and everyday deserves to be a success. George Inn, 77 Borough High St, T 020-7407 2056. Mon-Sat 1100- 2300, Sun 1200-2200. The Dragon, 5 Leonard St, T 020-7490 7110. Mon-Sat 1700- 2300. A wacky pub conversion with thumping house music and a chill-out zone. More popular with afterwork drinkers than its tatty bohemian atmosphere might suggest. Pride of Spitalfields, 3 Heneage St, Brick Lane, T 020-7247 8933. Daily 1100-2300. More of a locals local and something of an institution. Also popular with an arty crowd. Smersh, 5 Ravey St, off Leonard St. Mon-Sat 1700-2300. A cramped basement music bar. Tiny and hard to locate but worth it if youre looking for a strange vodka divebar. Vibe Bar, Truman Brewery, 95 Brick Lane, E1, T 020-7377 2899. Mon-Thu, Sun 1100-2330, Fri and Sat 1100-0100.
