The pick of the many coffee and sandwich shops in Mayfair is a fairly expensive but very English and genteel establishment for the taking of tea in the old auction house. Coffee and sandwich chains proliferate on the Kings Rd, but near the Worlds End, is a very friendly one-off, run by Italians (surprise, surprise). Also serves one of the best caffe lattes in town. You can also attend cookery courses here. Patisserie Valerie, 105 Marylebone High St, T 020-7935 6240. Quiet Revolution, 62 Weymouth St, T 020-7487 5683. Mon-Sat 0900-1700, Sun 1000-1600. Specialize in 100 % organic soups and delicious stews for about £5. Eat in or takeaway. Forum Café, 62 Great Russell St, T 020-7404 1878. Daily 0700- 1800. Right opposite the British Museum, doing a wide variety of high-quality sandwiches, salads and hot snacks.
