London - Gay and Lesbian

Travel Guides | London | Gay and Lesbian London

Dotted Line

London has the most thriving gay scene in the UK. Its centre has long been in Soho, now more exuberant and well-established than ever, where Old Compton St and Rupert St boast a host of gay bars, cafés and restaurants. Almost every part of the city though is home to equally congenial spots for gay visitors. In particular Earl’s Court in the west, Islington and Stoke Newington in the north, and Vauxhall and Brixton in the south, have all developed reputations for the quality of their gay and lesbian nightlife. Flyers for club nights at various venues around town can be found at most of the West End bars listed below. Otherwise check Time Out, the Pink Paper or the Gay Times for details of what’s on where when you visit. In late July (usually the last Saturday), Pride in the Park is the capital’s full-on gay and lesbian festival, now a ticketed event that fills Hyde Park with a colourful and confident crowd celebrating the culmination of the Pride Parade from the Embankment. See http://www.prideparade.org or http://www.prideinthe park.com for more details.
