One of the first restaurants in London to serve up Chinese haute cuisine, standards are still high. ££ Mr Kong, 21 Lisle St, T 020-7437 7923. Daily 1230-0230. Further down the same strip, Mr Kong also does some excellent Cantonese dishes and stays open until 0300. ££ 1997, 19 Wardour St, T 020-7734 2868. Daily 0600-0400. A busy place named after the year of Hong Kongs handover. Consistently good-value Cantonese cooking. £££ Alastair Little, 49 Frith St, T 020-7734 5183. Mon-Fri 1200- 1500, 1800-2230, Sat 1800-2230. The eponymous trailblazer of Anglo-Italian cooking no longer runs the kitchen here but it continues to come up with the freshest of well-prepared recipes, majoring on fish, served up in an intimate setting. £££ Richard Corrigan at Lindsay House, 21 Romilly St, T 020-7439 0450. Mon-Sat 1200-1430, 1800-2300. Makes waves with his modern Anglo-Irish menu. The great man himself is still very much in charge while the 18th-century atmosphere of his Soho townhouse creates an appreciative mood. £££ The Sugar Club, 21 Warwick St, T 020-7437 7776. The most fun and one of the most fashionable eateries in Soho, where a dressed-up crowd flock for New Zealand-Asian food in a see-and -be-seen setting. Downstairs is quieter, away from the buzzy bar. ££ Busaba Eathai, 106-110 Wardour St, T 020-7255 8686. Mon-Thu 1200-2300, Fri and Sat 1200-2330, Sun 1200-2200. Altogether more hip, but also busier and slightly more expensive, is this newish Thai casual dining room with large windows onto Wardour St. ££ Mar I Terra, 17 Air St, T 020-7734 1992. Mon-Sat 1200-1500, 1700-2300. A charming, dinky new branch of the Waterloo Spanish restaurant, its toothsome menu served up in a bright little place close to Piccadilly Circus. ££ Mildreds Wholefood Café, 58 Greek St, T 020-7494 1634. Mon-Sat 1200-2300. A very popular licensed vegetarian, clean and non-smoking, that has hung in here since the beginning of the wholefood revolution.
