London is a year-round destination with something for all seasons. April to October is high season though. Daylight hours are longest then and the weather likely to be at its most clement. July is often the sunniest of those months, when Londoners hit the shops for the sales. Increasingly continental in their habits, they tend to head off on holiday in August, which is therefore noticeably quieter. The huge exception to this rule, at the end the month, is the Notting Hill Carnival. In November the city becomes colder and darker, more atmospheric and North European in appeal: nightlife becomes more lively, reaching fever pitch in the run-up to Christmas and New Year. January to March are the closest the city comes to a low season.
