Kapital, C Atocha 125, T 91 420 29 06. Metro Atocha. Thu 2400-0700, Fri-Sun 2400-0700. Huge, fun mega-club on six floors, with a rooftop terrace, cinema and karaoke bar. Early sessions are aimed at teens.

La Boca del Lobo, C Echegaray 11, T 91 429 70 13. Metro Sevilla. 2200-0500. Small, laid-back club where you can hear everything from trip-hop to 50s rock-and-roll. Occasional film-screenings and other events.

Suite Café-Club, C Virgen de los Peligros 4, T 91 521 40 31. Metro Sevilla. Thu-Sat 2300-0500. Plenty of film stars at this favourite restaurant-cum-bar-cum-club with the so-cool-it-hurts crowd; sharp 70s-style decor, good global fusion cuisine in the restaurant, cool ambient sounds on one dance floor and deep house on the other.

Torero, C Cruz 26, T 91 523 11 29. Metro Sevilla. Tue-Sat 2300-0600. Upmarket club for the well-heeled – no trainers – but worth the trouble of dressing up for the buzzy atmosphere.

Villa Rosa, Plaza Santa Ana 15, T 91 521 36 89. Metro Sol or Sevilla. Mon-Sat 2300-0600. Former flamenco tablao is covered in colourful tiles inside and out. Mixed, fun crowd and eclectic music.

Joy Madrid, C Arenal 11, T 91 366 54 39. Metro Opera.Mon-Thu 2400-late, Fri-Sun 2400-late. This converted theatre became one of the biggest clubs of the Movida years. The fashion pack have moved on but it’s still fun for an over-the-top night out.

Kathmandu, C Señores de Luzón 3, T 91 634 42 01. Metro Sol or Opera. Thu 2300-0500, Fri-Sat 2300-0600. Great funk, friendly crowd and cool DJs at this groovy, red-painted subterranean bar and club.

Palacio Gaviria, C Arenal 9, T 91 526 60 69/70/71. Metro Opera. 2230-late, from 2030 on Sun. A stunning palace with several high-ceilinged salons, dripping in frescoes and cherubs, each devoted to different music. Dance music and go-go dancers at weekends, but each week night has a different speciality; Wednesday night is tango.

Danzoo (at Maximes), Puerta de Toledo 1. Metro Puerta deToledo. Fri and Sat 2400-0630. Hugely popular, featuring mainly electronica sounds, friendly up-for-it crowd, plenty of room.
