Las Carboneras, Plaza del Conde de Miranda 1, T 91 542 86 77. Metro Sol. Flamenco tablao, which has breath- takingly skilful dancers, musicians and singers, but is slightly lacking in atmosphere. Casa Patas, C Cañizares 10, T 91 369 04 96. Metro Antón Martín. The stage is in a shadowy, intimate little room at the back of the bar-restaurant area; its small enough to feel the sweat of the performers as they whirl about the stage, and you cant help joining in with the odd olé. The flamenco performances are among the best in the city. Peña Chaquetón, C Canarias 39, T 91 671 27 77. Metro Palos de la Frontera. Performances on Friday nights only, but get there early or you wont have a hope of getting in. It may be basic, but this is generally considered to be one of the very best flamenco venues in the city. La Soleá, Cava Baja 27, T 91 365 33 08. Metro La Latina. Anything can happen at this famous flamenco bar where guitarists and singers gather for semi-impromptu performances. You wont be alone as the bar is propped up mostly by guiris (young foreigners) nowadays, yet it still retains a magical atmosphere.
