Metro Charmartín. Huge business hotel right by Chamartín train station. With excellent weekend deals, it is the cheapest youll find if you want a pool. Its perfectly adequate in a bland, chain hotel sort of way, but it merits a special mention for its quiet location; a rarity in noisy Madrid. It also has excellent weekend deals and special offers. D Monaco, C Barbieri 5, T 91 522 4639, F 91 521 1601. Metro Chueca. This enjoyably louche former brothel is now distinctly shabby, even dilapidated, but still worth checking out. Converted from a luxurious 19th-century mansion, this hotel offers discreet five-star luxury (its part of the prestigious Relais and Chateaux group) and has just 28 rooms and four suites, all decorated individually in a modern take on 19th-century style. Theres a beautiful, flower-scented terrace, a charming salón de té, and a renowned restaurant. One of the most charming hotels in the city. Each room in this charming 19th-century mansion has been individually decorated, many in a slick, minimalist style. Beautiful public areas with plump sofas and antique fireplaces, tree-filled gardens and a large pool. Theres a handsome restaurant set in the former library. Close to the Parque del Retiro, this large, elegant hotel with a pretty interior courtyard and fresh, modern rooms; some are decorated by Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, whose trademark is bright colours and child like prints. Close to the Ventas bullring, this modern hotel offers all kinds of facilities for business travellers, and some interesting extras like hydromassage baths. It sometimes offers good weekend deals, and is a little out of town, so its cheaper than most four-star hotels in the city. Set on a quiet street, this smart hotel offers spacious, luxurious rooms, many with large balconies. Personal service and excellent facilities, including a hairdressers.
