RR-R Restaurant Gégène, Rue de la Marine, just off Place de lIndépendence, T 044-463369. Centrally located near the post office and the Château de la Mer, just south of the médina (look out for Wafa Bank). Specializing in fish and Italian dishes, clientèle of regulars, civil servants, people in business and the like. R Restaurant de Safi, 3 Rue de la Marine. Easily identified by bright displays of vegetables and plastic fruit. Roast chicken, brochettes, salads, harira, a few tables outside. Pleasant for a quick feed after a half-day doing the sites of Safi. Parking easy. There are cheaper places at the entrance to the médina, but hygiene there is less reliable. RRR LHippocampe, signed as you head down towards the beach, T 023-366108. Perhaps the most popular restaurant in Oualidia, part of the well-run Hippocampe (sea horse) hotel complex. Recommended. NB 20% VAT will be added to your bill. RRR-RR Ostréa II, on your left as you leave Oualidia on the Casablanca road. A branch of the Ostréa restaurant in the port compound at Casablanca. Oyster beds are Oualidias claim to fame (along with tomatoes), hence this restaurant. Fish and fruits de mer, dining on a terrace overlooking the lagoon. Alcohol served. Busy in summer and at weekends. Recommended. RRR-RR Restaurant A lAraignée gourmande, Oualidia Plage, near the campsite next to the beach, T 023-366144, 023-366447. Seafood with terrace well protected from the ocean breeze. Good service. RR Hotel Restaurant lInitiale, T 023-366246. Good Italian menu at 90dh, more expensive menu at 180dh. Candle-lit dining with a warm welcome. R Tomato Beach with its little terrace does seafood, including a plate of fried fish for 40dh and a splendid tajine de poisson.
