You could spend day one in the city, exploring the Centro Storico, visiting the Museo Archeologico, doing some shopping, drinking coffee and eating pizza and ice-cream. The second day could then be used for an excursion, either to one of the islands or maybe to Pompeii and Vesuvius, or south to the extraordinary ancient Greek remains at Paestum. A third day would give you the opportunity to see more of the citys sights, perhaps the spectacular Certosa di San Martino (an old monastery) on top of the hill above the city, the Palazzo Reale or the excellent art collection at Capodimonte, followed by an exploration of the lovely area of Chiaia, and west to the marina of Mergellina, with its great views of the city as the sun sets.
