Right on piazza dei Martiri this is good for Neapolitan fast food: savoury pastries, fritture, pre-cooked pasta etc. Pick and choose from a counter and eat in or take-away. Serving pizzas alongside traditional Neapolitan fare, this is a decent spot for a quick bite of lunch on your way to the Certosa San Martino. Despite its pleasant tree-lined courtyard at the back, this restaurant is a bit too big to have much character. The fixed-price 3-course menu is good, however, and at 7.75, very good value. A pasta dish (usually from a choice of two), a main course and a drink will cost you 9 and youll leave feeling very full. It can feel a little hurried though, and without any Italian you might struggle. La Cucina, largo San Paolo 19, T 081-5269060. 1230-1530, 2000-0000, closed Tue. One of Pozzuolis best-known restaurants, in a good position right by the port. Don Antonio, via Magazzini 20, T 081-5267941. Mon-Sun 1230-1500, 1900-0000. Downmarket but delicious, this is an excellent trattoria serving good and very cheap traditional dishes. Da Ciuffello, via Dicearchia 11, T 081-5269397. Mon-Sun 1200-1530, 2000-0100. Pozzuoli is well-known for its seafood. Trattoria Da Ciuffello, between the Cumana station and the port, is a good place to try the local fish soup, and has some outside tables. Trattoria il Buco, iI rampa Marina Piccola 5, T 081-8782354. 1200-1430, 1900-2330, closed Wed. Just off piazza San Antonio, down some steps under an arch. This is maybe as near as youll get in Sorrento to a traditional trattoria. Built into the Porto Marinella, one of the ancient gates of the town (c700AD), service can be less than attentive but the food is good.
