Trattoria il Buco, iI rampa Marina Piccola 5, T 081-8782354. 1200-1430, 1900-2330, closed Wed. Just off piazza San Antonio, down some steps under an arch. This is maybe as near as youll get in Sorrento to a traditional trattoria. Built into the Porto Marinella, one of the ancient gates of the town (c700AD), service can be less than attentive but the food is good. San Antonio, via Santa Maria delle Grazie 6, T 081-8771200. 1100-1530, 1900-0000 or later. With a pleasant raised terrace complete with orange trees, good pizzas and a reasonable range of other traditional regional dishes at relatively good prices, this is one of Sorrentos better restaurant options, well-used by locals as well as tourists. La Lanterna, via Cesareo 23-25, T 081-8781355. 1200-1500, 1900-0000, closed Wed. A line of small tables outside on the narrow street are the most desirable places to eat in this decent pizzeria/ restaurant. It must be doing something right, since two other branches are now open around town. Aurora, via Fuorlovado 18-22, T 081-8370181. 1200-1500, 1900-0000, closed Nov-Easter except one week over New Year. Possibly Capris best eatery, Aurora has been in the DAlessio family for three generations. The place is elegant, there are 300 wines to choose from, service is excellent and portions are reassuringly tiny. Mamma Giovanna, via Boffe 3/5, T 081-8372057. 1145-1500, 1900-2330, closed Wed Sep-Jun. On the quiet and picturesque piazza A Diaz, this excellent little restaurant does a good line in Pennette Aumm Aumm (with tomatoes and aubergines) and Orecchiette Boscaiolo (with mushrooms) as well as some good fried fish. Verginiello, via lo Palazzo 25, T 081-8370944. 1200-1500, 1930-0000. Just down the hill from via Roma. This is one of Capris best pizzerias, though they also do a reasonable traditional menu. There is a quiet terrace overlooking Marina Grande and the sea. Addo Riccio, via Grotta Azzurra 11, T 081-8371380. Mon-Sun 1200-1600, Sat-Sun 2000-0000. Out of Anacapri town towards the Grotta Azzurra. This friendly restaurant is worth the extra distance for its enormous portions of delicious seafood spaghetti. Buca di Bacco da Serafina, via Longano 25, Capri Town T 081-8370723. 1200-1500, 1900-0000, closed Wed. Not far from the piazzetta, this little restaurant is about as close as Capri gets to a traditional trattoria. The food is good, fresh and cheap and the clientele as local as it ever gets around here. Moscardino, via Roma 28, T 081-8370687. 1200-1500, 1930-2200. Better than you might imagine from its position (near the bus stop) and its exterior, the friendly Moscardino has a menu which changes, always a good sign, and a good selection of pasta and seafood dishes. The Light Lunch menu is also worth a look.
