Moscardino, via Roma 28, T 081-8370687. 1200-1500, 1930-2200. Better than you might imagine from its position (near the bus stop) and its exterior, the friendly Moscardino has a menu which changes, always a good sign, and a good selection of pasta and seafood dishes. The Light Lunch menu is also worth a look. Ristorante Coco, via Aragonese 1, Ischia Ponte, T 081-981823. Mon-Sun 1230-1530, 1930-0000. Given its position, almost on the bridge, directly opposite the castle, this ought to be an expensive tourist trap. However, for now at least it is an excellent, if slightly brusque, and decently priced restaurant with a mainly Italian clientele. The simple pasta and fish are especially recommended. Da Pasquale, via SantAngelo 79, T 081-904208. 1230-1500, 1900-0000, closed Tue Oct-Apr. Set back from the seafront in SantAngelo up a quiet street. A busy and loud pizzeria with a mostly Italian crowd. Its pizzas are excellent. Mamma Mia, via SantAngelo 62, T 081-999273. Mon-Sun 1200-1500, 1900-2200. Above SantAngelo, overlooking the beaches of Maronti, this popular restaurant has an excellent fish menu. The supermarket music and the caricatures of the moustachioed owner may not be everyones cup of tea but the food is fresh and expertly cooked. You may be offered a delicious basil liqueur as a digestivo. Snack Bar La Siesta, via F Buonocore 36, Ischia Porto, T 081-991307. Mon-Sun 0900-0000. Just back from the public beach in Ischia Porto. Abundantly flowery and relaxed, this place does excellent panini and large salads. Also a good place for a drink. Al Pontile, via L Mazzella 15, Ischia Ponte, T 081-983492. 1000-0200 every day, except Wed Nov-Mar. In an excellent position just back from the castle. Al Pontile describes itself as a bar-paninoteca, though its range of light meals and snacks are worth coming here for as well. Its also a very hospitable place and almost always open.
