The MTA

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (T1-718 330 1234, http://www.MTA.info) operates New York’s thousands of buses and subway carriages. Maps and other information are available on the MTA website. A MetroCard allows unlimited use of the subway and MTA buses (with free transfers) for a day, a week or a month and can be purchased with cash, debit or credit cards from subway vending machines or ticket booths. Pay-per-use MetroCards are also available and are ideal if you’re unsure how much you are going to use the MTA or if you’re travelling in a group. A $10 MetroCard, for example, is valid for six journeys.
