Wave your arm an inch on a New York street and most likely you’ll have hailed a cab. Inexpensive compared to most other major cities, New York’s yellow cabs are loved by most city dwellers. Fares start at $2 until 8pm or $2.50 thereafter. The meter then runs at quarter-mile increments. You’ll need to hold on, though, since most city cab drivers feel it’s their duty to drive you along at neck-whipping speeds.
