Walking New York

Travel Guides | New York | Getting Around | Walking New York

Dotted Line

Manhattan is best seen by foot. Although the city may seem intimidating and enormous, it’s really great for walking as it can be broken down easily into manageable sections and the subway is always nearby if you need to cover a larger distance. For many New Yorkers a 40-block walk is nothing unusual. Put on your best walking shoes and see what it’s all about. Always obey pedestrian signs and look both ways before crossing a road as cars, taxis and bikes can make the streets dangerous for pedestrians. Don’t worry about jaywalking – all New Yorkers do it when it’s safe.
