The Louvre and the Musée dOrsay both merit an entire day to themselves. For either you could walk from place de la Concorde, through the Tuileries gardens and the arcades along the rue de Rivoli. Make a detour to visit the lovely courtyard and gardens of the Palais Royal, and complete the circuit by walking past the impressive Opéra Garnier down to the place de la Madeleine, to see the church and the beautifully arranged specialist food shops. The Marais is the quartier that strikes many visitors as the most quintessentially French. From the picturesque place des Vosges, you could make your way to the Musée Picasso. The Pompidou Centre, in neighbouring Les Halles, is also well worth a visit, even if you decide only to admire the building from the outside.
