The hotel is located right in the heart of the Île St Louis, a haven of peace set back from the hubbub of the street. It is a converted royal Jeu de Paume (real tennis) court from the 17th century see the 18th-century painting beside the breakfast tables for an insight into the game. There is a small garden where guests can enjoy breakfast in summer. Relax into a leather armchair in the lobby with a book, or play a game of billiards. Pets are allowed for an extra 8 per night. C Hôtel des Deux-Îles, 59 rue St Louis en lÎle, 75004, T 01 43 26 13 35, F 01 43 29 60 25, http://www.hotel-ile-saintlouis.com">http://www.hotel-ile-saintlouis.com M Pont Marie. One of two hotels on this street with the same owner the other one is the Hôtel de Lutèce and both are equally welcoming and comfortable. Rooms are not large, and you should specify if you want a bath rather than a shower. The reception and breakfast room were refurbished in 2003. C Hôtel de Lutèce, 65 rue St Louis en lÎle, 75004, T 01 43 26 23 52, F 01 43 29 60 25, http://www.hotel-ile-saintlouis.com">http://www.hotel-ile-saintlouis.com M Pont Marie. Marginally cheaper than the two neighbouring hotels on the same street, the Hôtel de Lutèce and the Hôtel des Deux-Îles, but also less atmospheric. E Hôtel Henri IV, 25 place Dauphine, 75001, T 01 43 54 44 53. M Pont Neuf. This is probably the best-known reasonably priced hotel in the city, and certainly the best located. Rooms are large and the views over the square are wonderful. For these reasons it is not too difficult to overlook the rather Spartan decoration and the much-needed redecoration. You are advised to book well in advance. A Hôtel Bel Ami, 7-11 rue St Benoît, 75006, T 01 42 61 53 53, F 01 49 27 09 33. M St-Germain-des-Prés. A 115-room hotel located in an 18th-century printing factory. The design is minimalist, with long banks of sofas and numerous glass vases of flowers in the lobby. The newest rooms favour both earthy and ultra-modern tones: chocolate brown and olive green in the bedroom, clean chrome and glass in the bathroom (apparently rooms ending in five are the best). Planned improvements for 2003 include the addition of a Zen room, mini-gym, internet connection in every room, and the refurbishment of many rooms. The breakfast room intentionally echoes a factory canteen, with industrial-style overhead lights, lightweight metal chairs and tables of bleached wood and stone. Breakfast is an extra 20. A LHôtel, 13 rue des Beaux-Arts, 75006, T 01 44 41 99 00, F 01 43 25 64 81, http://www.l-hotel.com M St-Germain-des-Prés. The understated exterior belies the sumptuous story within. As its name suggests, for many this is the hotel in Paris, thanks to the light turret stairway, an attention to detail and the sheer luxury. All of the 16 rooms (from 250/275 in low/high season) and three suites are differently furnished, by French designer Jacques Garcia. Oscar Wilde died in room 16 on 30 November 1900, and a photograph of him forms part of the rooms furnishings. Breakfast is taken by the fountain, and guests can reserve private time in the intimately lit, jewel-sized pool in the cellar. B Artus Hôtel, 34 rue de Buci, 75006, T 01 43 29 07 20, F 01 43 29 67 44, http://www.artushotel.com M St-Germain-des-Prés. A trendy hotel with modern art and graffiti-decorated staircases. There is an internet station in the breakfast room, at which the user sits at a high table on a dentists chair. Rooms are less experimental, using natural colours and materials in a soothing, appealing way. The best room in the hotel is the Junior Suite (320), which has a huge jacuzzi and a fantastic sun-soaked private terrace overlooking the rue de Buci. C Hôtel des Marronniers, 21 rue Jacob, 75006, T 01 43 25 30 60, F 01 40 46 83 56. M St-Germain-des-Prés. Another hotel in the heart of animated St Germain, but set back from the street, with a courtyard either side. This advantage means that none of its rooms suffer from street noise. The rear courtyard garden has tables for breakfast or afternoon tea, but if the weather is too cold, guests can eat in the covered garden room.
H Hotel Saint Paul le Marais, 8 rue de Sévigné 75004, T 01 48 04 97 27, F 01 48 87 37 04.Nestled in the heart of the Marais, just steps from Place des Vosges and the Bastille Opera, our authentic, charm-filled hotel is housed in a former 17 th century convent right in the center of Paris.
