The Parisian metro system is very easy to use. There are 16 numbered lines, plus the small cable car, or funiculaire, leading up to Sacré Coeur. The direction of trains is indicated by the name of the last stop, so Line 1 runs to Château de Vincennes in the east and to La Défense in the west. Trains run between 0530 and 0030. Beware of groups of pickpockets on the trains – a common trick is to surround and jostle a victim during rush hour.
