Eurostar (UK T 08705 186 186, France T 0892 35 35 39, http://www.eurostar.com) is easily the slickest way to travel between Paris and the UK. There are up to 15 trains daily between 0515 and 1940 from London Waterloo, some of which also stop at Ashford (UK) and Calais (France) . The journey to London is about three hours, of which about 20 minutes is spent under the Channel. This will be reduced to as little as 2 hours 35 minutes when the fast rail link opens between London and the Channel. Tickets are £79 for trips that include a Saturday night, booked at least two weeks in advance. Booked a week in advance this rises to £95. At short notice you can expect to pay around £120. A weekend day-return costs £70. During the week, Eurostar operates on a business traveller rate and standard tickets are prohibitively expensive for most travellers. The so-called party train is a cheap clubbers option and special offers on various tickets are frequent. Paris has six main line stations Grandes lignes handling traffic from different regions in France and abroad. Trains from the north and Eurostar trains from the UK arrive and depart from Gare du Nord.
