Reykjavík has a good range of accommodation, from high- class hotels to family-run B&Bs. Theres plenty of choice in the city centre, close to the action, but be prepared to pay for the convenience. Most of the hotels are stylish, modern and expensive, but theres also a wide range of good quality guesthouses, particularly in summer, and you can often find cheap sleeping-bag accommodation which keeps the price down without sacrificing a private room or plump mattress. As the city becomes ever more popular places fill up quickly so you need to book two to three days in advance in the summer months. Prices drop considerably in September and sleeping- bag accommodation is also available out of season in many of the guesthouses. You can also hire studios and apartments in the city centre or stay on farms a little out of town to experience an alternative view of Icelandic life. Outside the city, prices are a little higher but there are guesthouses and sleeping-bag accommodation in all the main towns and villages.
The tourist information centre can book accommodation for a small price, http://www.tourist.reykjavik.is Visit http://www.hotel.connect.com for some good-value packages.
