Unfortunately, Reykjavíks cinemas conform to an international model blockbusters and Hollywood releases are the standard fodder even in the country with more cinema-goers per head than any other. If youre lucky enough to track down any independent or art-house movies, the chances are that theyll be in the original language with Icelandic subtitles. On the plus side, check out Reykjavíks shops for Icelandic art-house films subtitled in English to take home with you. These are rarely available abroad. Foreign feature films cost ISK 800 in any cinema in Iceland. Check the local newspapers or at the tourist office for whats on and where. Highly-rated and hilarious documentary film show about the nature of Iceland and its volcanoes in particular. Its in English but if you want it translated into German, French or Dutch you can book a special screening. The films on offer cover the Heimaey and Surtsey eruptions, and Villi Knudsens adventures which shows all the eruptions from 1947 to the present day.
