Astro, Austurstræti 22, T T 552 9222. Entry around ISK 500-1000. During the day Astro is all chocolate and tan leather, Sunday supplements and relaxing music. At night it becomes a club playing disco/pop/dance, home to any kind of attire from the punky to the sleek and well groomed. Not as classy as the new dance venue, NASA, though. Gaukur á Stöng, Tryggvagata 22, T 551 1556. Sun-Thu 2000- 0100, Fri-Sat 2000 till as late as the partys still going. Live bands around ISK 500. Dont even bother to try pron- ouncing this name its virtually impossible to get your tongue round it. Reykjavíkurs call it gaukurinn and its a dingy club that is home to young Icelandic bands. There are special nights of rock, pop, techno and hip-hop and its really popular with the locals. NASA, Austurvöllur Sq, T 511 1313. Fri-Sat 2200 onwards. ISK 1000. NASA is the newest of Reykjavíks clubs, a big space where its possible to see heavy metal acts during the week and shimmy to the most current disco and dance tunes at the weekend. Its easily the best place if youre looking for dance music. Sirkus, Klapparstígur 31. A little like a beach hut from the outside, Sirkus is a hip hang-out with palm trees painted on the wall, a kitsch interior and laid-back retro, indie and hip-hop music. Popular with the arts, music and gay scene, expect the unexpected from topless lesbian dancing to more general mad- ness. No entry fee, live music/DJs three times a week, beerISK 550. Spotlight, Hafnarstræti 17, T 562 6813. Playing wild dance music, Spotlight is the gay scene hub with pumping disco and dance tunes on Friday and Saturday nights. Its not a bad place to go dancing and describes itself as straight friendly.
