The car ferries are the only way to get your car or motorbike into the country but the journey is long and isn’t any cheaper than flying. Prices are given per person in Danish Kroner for a single journey. You can reach Iceland by ferry from Hanstholm in Denmark (4½ days, from DKK 1590, one trip weekly in summer), Bergen in Norway (48 hours, from DKK 1340, once weekly in summer), Lerwick in the Shetland Islands (36 hours, from DKK 1110, twice weekly), the Faroe Islands (15 hours, from DKK 960, three times weekly) and from Aberdeen via Lerwick (£53 return, £242 return for driver and car, both from Aberdeen to Lerwick, 24 hours. Lerwick to Seyðisfjörður as above). Students receive a 25% discount with an ISIC card, groups of 15 or more get a 10% discount, children 6-15 go half price and under 6s free. The long journey is due to a two-day stop in the Faroe Islands en route. From Seyðisfjörður route 1 will take you to Reykjavík, 682 km away.
