Dotted Line

Iceland’s lakes and rivers are populated with trout and salmon. The fishing season runs from April to September and you need a permit to fish in most rivers. Salmon fishing needs to be booked long in advance but trout-fishing permits are available at short notice. Prices are dependent on where you’re fishing, the yield and the time of year. Trout fishing costs around ISK 1000 per day depending on the season and equipment can be hired from fishing shops. Ice fishing is also possible in winter on Lake Reynisvatn, 15 minutes from Reykjavík.

Veiðihornið, Hafnarstræti 5, T 551 6760. The main fishing shop in Reykjavík selling permits and offering advice about freshwater fishing.

The Angling Club of Reykjavík, Háaleitisbraut 68, 103 Reykjavík, T 568 6050, F 553 2060. The central angling club and offers Permits, advice and maps of the best fishing areas.
