The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Háskólabíó, Hagatorg, T 545 2500. Prestigious orchestra playing great classical works. Tickets range from ISK 1100 to ISK 3500. The Icelandic Opera, Ingólfsstræti, 101 Reykjavík, T 511 4200. The opera is housed in a modern basalt building behind Ingólfshóll. There are a couple of performances a year between September and June. Tickets cost ISK 1500-5500. There isn’t a main jazz venue in Reykjavík and you may have to hunt it out only to find a very modern version of what you’re looking for. As with rock and pop, keep an eye out as things change and concerts can happen anywhere. A low-key jazz festival is held in the city at the beginning of October. Jómfrúin, on Lækjargata. Has occasional mid-afternoon sessions in the summer. Vegamót, on Vegamótstígur. The best place to go on a Friday and Saturday night, with a relaxed atmosphere and dancing.
