Sandwiches start at about ISK 500 and fish at ISK 1500. Its neither classy nor trendy like the majority of the city's bars and restaurants, but the food is good value. Danish open-sandwich restaurant with a bistro feel. Beef and salmon sandwiches start at around ISK 1150. Occasionally hosts mid-afternoon jazz recitals in Summer. Its very upmarket and devoid of the punk influences that you might expect from the scar of pink neon writing on the outside. Theres also a particularly good wine list. The café is open for sandwiches for around ISK 800, and coffee and cake during the afternoon, then it turns into a bar in the evening. The service is slow. K Shalimar, Austurstræti 4, T 551 0292. Mon-Thu 1130-2200, Fri-Sat 1130-2300, Sun 1700-2200. Its a bit unusual to be served lamb madras by a fair-haired, blue-eyed Icelandic waitress, but thats what you get here. Daily from 1700. Elegant fish restaurant down by the harbour serving lobster soup, puffin, wild salmon and a set menu of three courses for ISK 3000. Mexican cantina-style bar-restaurant with reasonably priced food and beer, and a young, fun atmosphere.
