KKK Fidlarinn, Skipagata 14, T 462 7100. Daily from 1800. Upmarket French restaurant with various daily set menus and a plush interior all set for fine dining.

KKK Friðrik V Brasserie, Strandgata 7, 600 Akureyri, T 461 5775. Tue-Sun from 1800, closed Mon. Elegant and polished French restaurant with a stylish interior and delicious lamb. Recommended.

KKK La Vita e Bella, Hafnarstræti 92, T 466 2277 Daily from 1800. Large, welcoming Italian restaurant with good service and a relaxed environment.

KK Bláa Kannan Café, Hafnarstræti 92, T 461 4600. Daily 0800-2300. Lovely large open café with modern art on the walls and mouth-watering cakes, filled croissants, and soup and pasta lunches. Open from 0800 and a perfect place for a continental breakfast.

KK Café Amour, Ráðhústorgi 9, T 461 2222. Daily 1100-2300. Relaxed wine bar/café with cream leather chairs, cocktails and light bar snacks, and seafood soup and salads.

KK Greifinn, Glerágata 20, T 460 1600. Daily 1100-2330. Italian-style restaurant that’s perennially popular for its reasonably priced meals and family atmosphere. The fish is particularly recommended.

KK Karolína, Þingvallastræti, T 461 2755. Mon-Thu 1130-0100, Fri-Sat 1130-0300, Sun 1400-0100. Restaurant open daily from 1800 in Summer, Tue-Fri in Winter. Small, arty and warm café and restaurant with modern European fusion food, snacks, beer and wine. The restaurant is more expensive but worth it. Jazz recitals every Thursday in summer and occasional art exhibitions add to the bohemian vibe.

K Tikk Takk Takeaway, Raðhústorg, T 461 1300. Mon-Thu 1130-2030, Fri 1130-0500, Sat 1700-0500, Sun 1700-2030. Range of well-priced fast food from pizza to sandwiches, Indian, Mexican and Chinese food. The added bonus is that it’s open very late on a Friday and Saturday night if you’re hungry on your way home.
