Dotted Line

Swimming in Reykjavík is an unmissable activity whether you go to the Blue Lagoon or find the time to relax in a family-orientated local pool. Unlike other spa towns across the world, the majority of the pools are outdoor municipal pools or lidos with the added bonus of hot pots and steam rooms. Swimming is the national sport and all Icelanders have to be able to swim before they can graduate from school. Families use the hot pools and thermal spas to relax and chat in as primarily a social occasion especially early in the morning and after work. More natural outdoor swimming areas can be found at Landmannalaugar, about a four-hour drive from the city where the hot springs mix with the natural stream. You can even swim in the heated water of the beach beneath the Pearl at Nauthólsvík . All the swimming pools listed below are in Reykjavík, unless stated otherwise, and cost ISK 220 for adults, ISK 100 for children.

Great for families, this outdoor pool has a wonderful view of the countryside as well as hot tubs and a steam room. The countryside setting makes it perfect for a wallow on a cold and windy evening.
