Dotted Line

Antigüedades, C Argote de Molina 40. 2000-0300, Sat-Sun 2000- 0400. A highly unusual bar with a terrace near the cathedral, filled to the rafters with stuffed humanoids in strange poses, a labour of love of the artistic owner. They’re accompanied by severed limbs in cages and a buzzy mix of locals, tourists, and reasonably priced drinks.

Pecata Mundi, C Alvarez Quintero 46. Mon-Wed 2100-0200. Open later Thu-Sun. A decent bar decorated with paintings of the seven deadly sins; pass the time trying to work out which is which. There’s usually an interesting crowd in; and spirit prices are good; try Flor de Caña, a tasty Nicaraguan rum. It also does reasonable tapas.

Zapata, C Rodríguez Zapata 1. Thu-Sun 2100-0100. A cheerful, red, Mexican bar near the cathedral with, for once, not a fajita in sight – only drinks. Slushy margaritas roll over at one end of the bar and there’s plenty of beer and tequila going down too, mostly on the street outside.

Berlin, C Boteros s/n, T 954 221 697. 2000-0700. Brick-lined bar near Plaza Alfalfa with an interesting and talkative crowd. Run by an Austrian with a perfect Andalucían accent, it’s open until all-hours and plays a mix of popular rock. Drinks are relatively cheap, making it a good late night option in this part of town. When you’re done, head to Bar Manolo on Plaza Alfalfa and have a tostada de jamón with plenty of olive oil – it’ll seem like one of the best meals you’ve ever had.

La Rebotica, C Pérez Galdós 11, T 954 221 625. 2100-0300. One of a few popular bars on this street, this place is known for its chupitos, shooters that’ll set you back E 1.05 and probably make or break your night out. There are 75 or so to choose from.

Kiosko del Agua, Paseo de Colón s/n. Apr-Oct 1100-2200. On the riverfront, this is one of Seville’s best spots for an evening beer. Sit on the wrought-iron metal chairs and watch the sun set over Triana while bats and swallows flutter among the silhouetted palm trees. Good views of the floodlit Torre del Oro too.

Burbujas, Corona Center, Pl de la Virgen Milagrosa. Thu-Sun 2000-0200. It’s a curiosity of Spanish life that good bar scenes are often to be found in seedy shopping arcades; a few bars pool together in this one, where there’s a lively crowd sitting out at plastic tables. It’s an excellent place for a few drinks, there’s a non-sceney gay presence too, and litre pitchers of cocktails are a mere E 7.50.

Café de la Prensa, C Betis 8, T 954 333 420. 1500-0300. Lives up to its name with its walls papered with pages from old newspapers; there’s a good, quiet late drinking scene here and a down-to-earth crowd most nights. Drinks are cheapish for this stretch and it’s also a relaxing place to sit and hang out during the late afternoon.

La Fundición, C Betis 49-50. 2100-0300 , weekend 2100-0500. A big Triana bar which goes late with a cheerily drunk crowd of locals and foreigners. The beer’s cold, there’s a pool table (though it’s not usable when the bar’s full), and the music is soft enough to allow the chat-up lines to flow thick and fast. The decor is of the generic American filling station type.
