Dotted Line

El 27, C Trastamara 27. 2100-0300 (weekends 0700). A discreet, backstreet bar attracting mostly gay males. Relaxing atmosphere and music.

El Hombre y El Oso, C Amor de Dios 32, http://www.elhombre yeloso.net 2230-0230, weekends 0330. Door policy is men only. A large bar with three levels, a cuarto oscuro (darkroom), videos and cubicles. It’s virtually wholly gay male; as the name would suggest, there are plenty of bears, but that’s by no means the whole story.

El Mundo, C Siete Revueltas 5, T 954 215 335. 2300-0300. This bar varies in atmosphere according to what’s on. Apart from Tuesday night flamenco, there’s usually a fair gay and lesbian element, and it’s always an interesting spot for a drink.

El Paseo & Isbiliyya, Paseo de Colón 2, T 954 210 460. 2000-0300, weekends 0600. Two adjacent gay bars right opposite the Triana bridge with a nice outdoor terrace. There’s plenty of dancing and music and live shows at weekends. Due to their prime location and cheerful atmosphere they attract a mixed crowd.

El Varón Rampante, C Arias Montano 3, T 656 906 663. 1900- 0200. Just off the Alameda de Hércules, this bar (appropriately named ‘the rampant male’) and the adjacent one, El Bosque Animado, attract plenty of people who mingle outside on weekend evenings. The crowd is mixed at peak times, but is usually fairly solidly gay male.

Hércules Mítico, Alameda de Hércules 93. 1600-0400. A popular bar on this long square with a tall and elegant trannie as host. Modern interior and largely gay male crowd; music is mostly recent Spanish pop hits, but there are some DJ nights with varying types of dance music.

Itaca, C Amor de Dios 31. 2300-0500. Seville’s best gay discoteca, always well-attended and with appropriately good dance music. There’s a backroom and shows from Wed-Sat nights.

Men to Men, C Trajano 38. 2230-0500. A gay club near the Alameda. Large, dark and popular with a dark room and decent dance music.

Monasterio, C Amor de Dios 18. Thu-Sat 2300-0600. Another decent discoteca with a principally gay and lesbian crowd.

Noveccento, C Julio César 10. Winter 1700-0200, summer 2000-0400. A bar and café that attracts a mixed crowd with a significant lesbian element. Frequent shows that cater to both guys and gals.

Why Not, C Federico Sánchez s/n, T 954 222 636. Thu-Sat 2300-0500. Relaxed discoteca with a mixed, but mostly gay male, crowd. There are three rooms, the first quiet and decorated with Hollywood icons and a bonsai tree. The two dance floors are fairly crowded and have good sound systems walloping out unchallenging popular hits that are enthusiastically received. Entry is $ 10 including drink; there’s another branch at Calle Bedoya 20 and an outdoor one in summer behind the Plaza de Armas bus station.
