Bullfighting is the most controversial of activities but very popular in Seville; Andalucía is really the cradle of los toros. Sevilles bullring, La Maestranza, is the second most prestigious in Spain and draws the top fighters every year. Unless youre sure youll hate it, consider going just for the Seville fashion and the pure Spanishness of the experience. Seville has around 28 bullfights a season, one every day in Feria, then every Sunday until September. The highest standard can be seen at Feria and at the seasons end, but youll pay more for tickets at these times and they are harder to get hold of. For the big fights, its worth reserving several days in advance at the ticket office at the bullring, or using one of the agents on Puerta de Jerez or Calle Tetuán, who add on a small commission. Tickets in the sun (sol) are the cheapest, followed by sol y sombra (sun and shade) and sombra. Within the sections, ringside seats (barreras) are the most expensive.
