Dotted Line

EE Restaurante Puerta Grande, C Antonia Díaz 33, T 954 216 843. Opposite the bullring, this smart eatery is predictably decorated with trajes de luz (matadors’ suits). There’s good dining to be done here; the solomillo is a house specialty, there’s a variety of seafood, and the revueltos are also excellent.

E Café-Bar Veracruz, Paseo de las Delicias 1, T 954 225 315. 0800-0100. Unfashionable, no-frills joint with plastic terrace enjoying views of the Torre del Oro. The staff are friendly, the tapas good and there’s an E 8.50 menú.

E Casa de Postas, C Reyes Católicos 25, T 954 563 479. 1230- 0100. Ignoring the pre-fab paella menus, this tiny bar offers some great food on its terrace (20% price hike for the privilege). Recommended options include espinacas con garba- nzos (spinach with chickpeas), good grilled meats, and tasty migas.

E Infanta Sevilla, C Arfe 36, T 954 229 689. Tue-Sun 0900-1700, 2000-0100. A popular, smartly decorated bar which has exceptionally well-priced food. The warm decoration is typically Spanish, full of bottles, barrels and hanging joints of ham; the raciones cost E 5-E 8; try hojaldre relleno de buey, the house rice, or tortilla al whisky.

EE El Candil, C Paraíso 3, T 954 274 784. 1200-1700, 2000-0100. A popular tapas and lunch spot, this is a pleasantly- lit restaurant with wooden beams and tiled pictures of old Seville. The service is a highlight, as are the fish dishes – try urta, a kind of bream. The solomillo in cheese sauce is also a cracker.

EE La Triana, C Castilla 36, T 954 333 819. Tue-Sun 1300-1630, 2030-0030. A light and modern place with some river views, this place serves up some seriously good food with contemporary innovation taking its place alongside some traditional Andalucían fare. Try turkey rolls stuffed with chard and red pepper sauce (rollitos de pavo rellenos de acelga).

EE La Vega de Triana, Pl San Martín de Porres 4, T 954 337 144. A well-decorated place with tiled pictures and drinkers eating tapas off barrels. The menu is strong on chargrilled meats; also an extensive choice of fried fish and panes.

EE Samurai, C Salado 6, T 954 283 106. A peaceful backstreet Japanese restaurant which has a good lunch special for E 5.81 on weekdays. The food and service are good, and the wooden furnishing elegant and relaxing. Makes a good change from Andalucían food if you’re looking for one.

E Cervecería La Mar, Av de Coria 5, T 954 343 930. 1200-1600, 1900-0000. A big barn of a place run by Mariscos Emilio whose tasty seafood pops up in a number of places around the city. It’s basically a place to eat prawns and drink beer; a big plate of the former and a litre of the latter will set you back just E 8.10.
