Abacería Puerta Carmona, C Puerta Carmona 38, T 954 420 695. 1200-2400. A characterful and friendly place with wooden floors, this bar has a mini second floor with acres of sherry and serves excellent tapas in an authentic atmosphere. Theres a big selection of goat and sheep cheeses and cured meats in particular. Bar Alfalfa, corner C Alfalfa & C Candilejo, T 954 213 354. 1100-0100. Decorated with farming implements, earthenware jars, and hundreds of bottles of wine, you can enjoy a perfect bruschetta here or a selection of Italian cheeses. Spills outside on warm evenings. Bar Campanario, C Mateos Gago 8, T 954 564 189. 1200-2400 (0100 in summer). An attractive option with warm staff and a good range of vegetarian salads and snacks as well as meatier fare. Try the gratinado de berenjenas while sitting on the small terrace. Bar Las Teresas, C Santa Teresa 2, T 954 213 069. Mon-Fri 0900-2400, Sat 1000-0200, Sun 1100-2400. With a handful of outdoor tables, this bar obviously sees plenty of passing tourist traffic, but its worth a stop. Decorated with bullfight scenes and hanging hams, the cured meats are good and served with spuds if you like. Bar Patanchón, C Mateos Gago 13, T 954 224 708. 1200-0200. While its only halves and raciones on the terrace here, head inside for some unusual and delicious tapas the camembert in raspberry sauce is particularly noteworthy. Bodega Santa Cruz, C Rodrigo Caro 2. 1200-2400. This is a busy and cheerful bar, largely because it does some of Sevilles choicest tapas and montaditos. Sees plenty of tourists but still very authentic close to the Giralda. Highly recommended. Carmela, C Santa María la Blanca 6. One of the better of the terraced bars on this long plaza, Carmela serves food all day from 0900. There are good breakfasts, plenty of vegetarian dishes and snacks, and decent tapas, as well as a plato del día thats good value for this part of town at E 6. Casa Plácido, C Mesón del Moro 5, T 954 563 971. Mon-Thu 1200-1600, 2000-2400, Fri-Sun 1200-0100. A likeable place in the warren-like centre of the barrio, but comparatively untouristed. Staff are friendly and serve up a variety of good stuff in the bullfight-decorated interior or on the small terrace. Good choices include the tasty sausages, or dates with bacon. Casa Roman, Pl de los Venerables 1, T 954 228 483. 0900-1600, 1700-0030. A little over-touristy but still deservedly popular with locals, this bar serves up excellent, well-priced jamón, full of big flavour. There are also some good meat dishes and a couple of tasty revueltos try the one con ajetes (garlic shoots).
