Casa Roman, Pl de los Venerables 1, T 954 228 483. 0900-1600, 1700-0030. A little over-touristy but still deservedly popular with locals, this bar serves up excellent, well-priced jamón, full of big flavour. There are also some good meat dishes and a couple of tasty revueltos try the one con ajetes (garlic shoots). Casa Sergio, C Lope de Rueda 18, T 954 215 435. This no-frills tapas bar draws a loyal local crowd including a few painters whose canvases adorn the walls. La Giralda, C Mateos Gago 1, T 954 227 435. 0900-2400. Despite the fact the bar staff occasionally find it amusing to overcharge tourists, this tapas bar is one of Sevilles better ones, for the size and quality of the portions. The decor is attractive with pretty tiles and a Moorish feel. Particularly recommended is the solomillo. La Goleta, C Mateos Gago. Tue-Sun 0900-1500, 2000-2300. Tiny bar with loads of character. Very simple and friendly bar in the shadow of the cathedral that couldnt be more authentic. Not a frill in sight, just tasty montaditos served until late and an untouristy crowd spilling onto the street. Bar Gonzalo, C Alemanes 21, T 954 223 595. 0700-0300. Although its just by the cathedral and thus in prime tourist zone, this is a good tapas option with some good fishy bites including calamares en su tinta and some very fat tortilla and empanada. The restaurants speciality is seafood. Bar Hermanos Gómez, Jardines Murillo s/n, T 954 211 926. One of a few branches, this chiringuito by the gardens should be tried for its delicious prawns. Six of the things and a glass of cold house red will set you back E 2 and breathe new life into a garlic-drenched palate. Antigua Abacería de San Lorenzo, C Arfe s/n. Tue-Sun 0830-2400. A cosy little bar that was once a grocers and still has the old wooden floors and deli products on the shelves. The place smells of strong cheese; the tapas here are good; its also a decent spot for breakfast. Arena, C Adriano 10, T 954 219 364. 1200-0100 (0400 at weekends). A cool bar, the tapas here are artesanas and theres certainly a variety on offer.
