This has allegedly included the practice of paying artists a few tins of beer in return for works of art, which are then sold on for thousands of dollars, none of which the artist will ever see. If you intend to buy original Aboriginal art ask plenty of questions that relate to the work's authenticity and look out for the National Indigenous Arts Advocacy Association Label of Authenticity.
