Slip Inn, 111 Sussex St, T 9299 4777. Open daily, free entry before 2200. Corner of Sussex St and King St. A trendy night spot with three rooms and a courtyard that fills with the young and beautiful, who let rip to a mix of house and rave. Good Vibrations on a Saturday is especially popular.

Globe, corner Park St and Elizabeth St, T 9264 4844. Sun-Thu 1100-2200, Fri and Sat 1100-0600. Fri $10, Sat $15. The place to go if you like funk and are indeed funky.

Gas, 477 Pitt St, Haymarket, T 9211 3088. Daily 2200-0400. $15-25. The unfortunately named Gas is one of the best venues for dance music in the city with excellent, clued-up DJs revving up the crowds to a range of soul, funk, hip-hop, house and R&B, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

Civic Hotel, 388 Pitt St, T 8267 3181. Open nightly. Under $10. Corner Gouldburn St. A noted pub, cocktail bar and restaurant, the Civic is a traditional weekend haunt for a cosmopolitan crowd who repeatedly come to enjoy old anthems and classics.

Home, 101 Cockle Bay Wharf, T 9266 0600. Daily 2200-0600. $15. One of the country’s largest state of the art night- clubs. On four levels you will find lots of skin tight pants and boob tubes getting on down to a vibe of mainly house and trance. Every Saturday there is an enjoyable kinkidisco.

Cave Nightclub, Star City Complex, Pirrama Rd, T 9566 4755. Fri and Sat 2200-0600, Sun 2130-0500. Southwest of Pyrmont Bay. Very trendy establishment offering good dance and R&B combo, but don’t go unless your dayglo pants are in this month’s colour.

Goodbar, 11A Oxford St, T 9360 6759. Wed-Sat 2200-0300. From $15. A well-established club and an old favourite amongst Sydneysiders, from the sexy young things to the sexually confused and the odd forgotten-how-to-be-sexy fossils. Mixed music and good value.

Arq, 16 Flinders St, T 9380 8700. Mon-Thu free, Fri, Sat, Sun from 2200, from $15. A new club with two large dance floors, plenty of space and a good balcony from which to watch a friendly crowd of both straight and gay.
