Near Tallinn’s ‘Onion Village’, the Radisson has a rust-coloured chimney that has forever changed the city’s skyline. Inside, however, it’s business as usual: tip-top facilities, thoughtfully designed rooms and attentive service. No charge for under-17s, a play area and baby-sitting on request. The 24th-floor terrace café, with superb views over the city and sea, is open to non-residents in summer from 1600. Free morning sauna, summer and weekend discounts. Not that you’d guess from the ritzily renovated lobby and top-notch facilities. Ask for a room with a wooden floor. The 26th-floor sauna and fitness centre, with swimming pool, have stunning views, as does the 14th-floor restaurant, the city’s finest. It’s the only hotel in Tallinn with a concierge service. Built in 1930, this rather grey building on a bustling square was the unofficial residence for western diplomats in the early 1990s, before embassies were established. Stylish boutique hotel in a former machine works near the harbour. All rooms are duplex suites with kitchenettes. There’s also a glitzy new annex. Although it’s a modern building, on the foundations of a former factory, a quirky interior gives this place a warren-like feel. The rooms are plain and big on pine. Bar and sauna. Not to be confused with the adjacent Rotermanni Viking.
