Pre-war Tallinn, they say, never slept, not even in winter. After the blip of the Soviet era, that is pretty much the case again, and the city is a paradise for 24-hour party people. By western standards, admission and drinks are a bargain, and Tallinn is compact and easily navigable, no matter what state youre in. The introverted Estonians seem to lose their reserve when it comes to a night out; although most venues attract an up-for-it, unpretentious crowd. Most of the megaclubs stick to tried-and-trusted techno hits, but youll find more sophisticated sounds in the hippest places, and more idiosyncratic music policies in the Old Towns late-night cellar bars. Tallinn also has a vibrant live music scene. Vibe (http://www.vibe.ee) and Mutant Disco (http://www.mutantdisco.com) and, more recently, Peovool (http://www.peovool.ee) are the best party organizers, staging house, techno, hip-hop, drumnbass and jazz nights in venues across town. You can find flyers in Café Moskva, Pegasus and other trendy cafés, or see http://www.stereo88.com/events for details of whats on.
