From UK and the rest of Europe Ryanair flies daily from Stansted to Turins Sandro Pertini airport, commonly referred to as Caselle after the village it is near. The direct flight takes just under two hours. Watch out for special offers for flights at a derisory £0.09 pence each way (not including taxes of £13.26 outbound and £8.82 return), so you can get there and back from as little as £22.17. There is a small discount for booking online at http://www. ryanair.com. British Airways flies direct to Turin from London Gatwick with two flights daily, from £88.30 return including taxes. The Italian national carrier Alitalia and its competitors, Air One and Meridiana offer scheduled services connecting the UK. Other airlines such as Lufthansa and Iberia offer non-direct services via Stuttgart and Madrid respectively. Otherwise Turin is connected by direct scheduled flights to most major European capitals. Useful alternatives to bear in mind are Ryanair flights to Genoa (just over an hour by train) and a greater choice of scheduled services to Milan (1hr 40 mins by train). In addition to the above, a number of charter airlines such as Monarch, Britannia and Air 2000 offer occasional and seasonal services to Turin from Birmingham and Manchester and London Gatwick airports. The best and cheapest option is to fly to London (US$5-600 off season, up to US$1,000 during summer) and take an onward connection from there or to fly direct to Milan and take one of the regular good-value intercity trains from Milan to Turin. From Australia and New Zealand There are currently no direct flights to any Italian destination from Australia or New Zealand. The best option is to fly to an alternative European hub (such as London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt) and take an onward connection; alternatively head for Milan and then connect by train to Turin. Airport information Turins Sandro Pertini Airport, commonly referred to as Caselle, T 011 5676 6361/2, http://www.turin-airport.com, lies 16 km due north of Turin near the town of Caselle. It is a small, modern with one terminal for all departures and arrivals, a good information bureau and facilities for money exchange and withdrawal, car hire and a small bar and restaurant. There is not a vast selection of shops inside the airport. The journey from the airport to the city centre takes about 30 minutes by car. A taxi for a one-way trip costs around E 25. Taxis can be found immediately outside the arrivals hall. The airport taxi number is T 011 996 3090. The new train service into Turins Dora station is reliable and takes 30 mins. From the airport to Turin, the service departs twice hourly at 19 and 49 minutes past the hour; from Turin to the airport, again twice hourly at 13 and 43 minutes past the hour. Between 0515-0745 the bus leaves every 30 minutes at 15 and 45 past; between 0815-1545 every 45 mins; between 1630-2030 every 30 mins, and between 2100-2230 every 45 mins again. Tickets can be purchased on board, in newstands or at the bus terminal at either end and cost E 5 each way for the 40-minute journey. Stops in town include both Turins main railway stations, Porta Susa and Porta Nuova, also the journeys terminus at the corner of via Sacchi 8 and via Assietta.
