EEE Caffe Elena, via Matteo Pescatore 9, T 011 837760. Currently one of Turins cooler hang-outs, more for its trendy minimalism, lounge music and general bar scene than for its food however, it is nevertheless beautifully prepared and presented and very tasty. EEE Mare Nostrum, via Matteo Pescatore 16, T 011 8394543. A local bastion of seafood cuisine, delicious but at a price. EE Al 24, via Montebello 24, T 011 8122981. Another lively and good-value eatery around the Mole Antonelliana mixing Piemontese and Tuscan cuisine with plenty of truffle dishes when in season. EE Al Fortin, via Damiano Chiesa 8, T 011 2731672. With ingredients all locally-sourced and fresh, the Piemontese dishes served here are very full flavoured. EE Cave du Jour, C.so San Maurizio 69, T 011 836145, closed Sun, only open in evenings, all cards except Amex. Near arcaded piazza Vittorio, this recently opened restaurant with vaulted, bare-brick ceilings projects a traditional and simple atmosphere. The extensive wine list makes it more of a winery- cum-restaurant and in summer it is nice just to sit at the outside tables and sample a glass or two. The menu offers a wide range of wholesome taverna-style dishes. EE Finestre sul Po, Lungo Po Cadorna 1, T 011 8123633. Set on the left bank of the languorous river Po but not really with a view, you will probably want to concentrate on the delicious food served here anyway, in particular the risotto. EE La Cloche, strada Traforo del Pino 106, T 011 8994213. A cosy family run restaurant set across the river and therefore a little out of the way, specializing in a game-oriented menu of rich regional dishes. EE Monferrato, via Monferrato 6, T 011 8190661. A real slice of Piemonte from the food down to the dialect of the waiters and chef. All the local favourites are on offer here in genuine local surroundings.
