From April through to October, Turin enjoys the typically balmy Mediterranean climate that will not disappoint visitors in search of hot, outdoor Italian life. August can be uncomfortably hot and many bars, restaurants and museums are closed so a visit during this month should be avoided. Winter is an altogether different proposition. From November to March Turin can be bitingly cold, although it rarely actually snows in the city, and the city is either sparkling under alpine sunshine or shrouded in a thick and magical fog which hangs around for days. Perhaps these months reveal the true colours of Turin. They are also the prime months for those wanting to use the city as a gateway to the mountains: snow is abundant from November sometimes until as late as mid-May.
