Valencia's nightlife is concentrated in different 'zones' around the city, but the best place to start is the hip Barri del Carme in the heart of the Old City, where stylish restaurants, clubs, and bars are nudged up against each other in the narrow streets. There are more bars and clubs near the university in the new part of town. Check out the streets around the Plaça Honduras, near the Avinguda Blasco Ibáñez, which are crammed with student bars and clubs. In summer, everyone piles down to the bars near the Malvarrosa beach near the port. Sadly there's only one big terrazza now (outdoor disco), but there are still plenty of buzzy beachside bars. Be aware that parts of this area can be pretty seedy after nightfall with prostitutes and druggies (although they will almost certainly not give you any hassle) lurking in the shadows. There are plenty of summer terrazzas in other parts of town, and many provide free shuttle buses. Get leaflets and flyers from bars and shops.
For club information, pick up the Levante newspaper on Fridays, which has a listings section
(cartelera). Bars and shops, particularly in the Carme carry flyers and the freebie magazine A Little Beat. The English freebie magazine, 24-7 Valencia (http://www.24-7valencia.com) also has some listings.
