Most major touring Spanish theatre companies will stop in Valencia, and there is a good range of productions on offer, from classical to contemporary. It also attracts some world- class theatre, and hopes that the new Palau de les Arts will bring even more to the city. There is a dedicated information line to theatres in Valencia, T 963 536 746. This is a private, family-owned theatre which puts on a varied programme encompassing everything from musicals and zarzuela to classical dance, opera and theatre. The Principal is Valencia's oldest and most established theatre. It offers a varied programme of drama, opera, ballet and zarzuelas (Spanish operetta). This theatre is also owned by the Valenciano government and is usually used for drama. Teatro/Teatre Talia, C/Cavallers/Cavalleros 31, T 963 912 920. Bus 5B. This beautiful, Modernista theatre in the heart of the Old City used to be for the city workers, showing popular operettas and theatre. It was bought and completely revamped by the Valenciano government and, although the programme is wide-ranging, there is often a Valenciano slant. This is the biggest and most daring of the contemporary theatre spaces in Valencia. The excellent, innovative theatre group Moma has been going for more than 20 years, and this vast hall is used for workshops, performances (even the stage is unconventional) and courses. This small cinema and theatre is often used for contemporary, cutting-edge dance and drama. It is mainly used by Valenciano theatre groups, but it occasionally doubles as a cinema, showing unusual art and cult films.
