Valencia once languished in the shadow of flashy Madrid and trendy Barcelona but its days as a wall- flower are long over. The word is out: Valencia, with its vibrant medieval core, fantastic nightlife, shopping and restaurants, sandy beaches, and some of the most spectacular new architecture in Europe, is the hottest new destination on the Mediterranean.
The arrival of the new Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències put Valencia firmly on the tourist which were once home to the fishermen and dock workers. Sadly, many of the old workers' houses some beautifully tiled and given Modernista twirls are under threat in the relentless drive to modernize the area and link the seaside neighbourhoods with the city centre.
