In keeping with their relaxed West Coast attitude, people in Vancouver are extremely tolerant of homosexuality and the city has become, like San Francisco, one of North Americas gay capitals. A large number of bars, clubs and events are aimed specifically at a gay crowd and many more are proud to be seen as gay-friendly. The main focus of this lively and open gay scene is the West End (especially Davie Street), which houses the largest gay community in Western Canada. By dint of sheer proximity, Stanley Park, particularly Lees Trail near Second Beach, has become a popular cruising area. This whole zone is the venue for the main gay event of the year: held every August, the Gay Pride Parade is a colourful, extravagant celebration; a wild, joyful party to which all are welcome. At the same time is the Out on Screen Queer Film Festival, with gay-themed or gay-directed movies from around the world. There are always special events taking place around town, easily tracked down in XtraWest, Vancouvers free gay newspaper.
