Unless youre coming from the United States or elsewhere in Canada, the only way to get to Vancouver is by air. There are frequent flights to Vancouver from London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, and many cities in the US. Three weekly flights arrive from Australia and two from New Zealand. Flights from Europe are reasonably inexpensive, especially in the off-season. There are also frequent buses and trains from Seattle. Flights within Canada are relatively expensive.
Vancouvers Downtown is easily explored on foot. The fastest, most efficient form of local transport is the SkyTrain, but its destinations are limited. The local bus network is extensive, but services are slow, stop running around midnight, and tend to be confusing for visitors. The SeaBus makes the scenic journey to the North Shore, while useful private ferries ply the waters of False Creek. Taxis are affordable and numerous. Destinations further afield are reached by Greyhound buses and BC Ferries. Long waits for the latter are frequent in summer. Car rental is unnecessary except for longer excursions.
